The Legacy Project is an initiative which has been set up to work closely with young people who live or are educated in the Test Valley area, between the ages of 11-25, and have been identified as being at risk of criminal exploitation or victimisation. This programme aims to give participants the tools to reduce risks and improve their wellbeing through both Individual Mentoring and Group Work. This structure is designed to be flexible so we can provide support and advice on matters that are most important to an individual participant’s needs. We are also very understanding of personal circumstances and try to be as accommodating as possible when it comes to scheduling sessions. There are 13 weekly sessions, each being an hour in duration. These take place in person and usually occur in either schools or community settings. The first session acts as an initial meeting and is with an Engagement Worker. Here we will make a real effort to learn about and understand the participant so that we can pair them with the most appropriate mentor. We take great pride in this process as matching the participant with a mentor based on shared background and specialist areas is of the utmost importance.
The next 12 mentoring sessions will then be based around this partnership and will shape the programme’s content, all with the goal of putting sustainable future plans in place.
If you would like to get involved you can either apply yourself, or be nominated by another individual or organisation. Whatever the process though we always encourage the young person to be involved. Applications are processed through a form on the ’Nominations‘ page of this website. A button taking you to this can be found at the bottom of the page.
We also warmly welcome any volunteers that are passionate about working with young people to help contribute to the running of the project. For more details on the programme do get in contact.
